TAKE AND MAKE CRAFTS
Here are some more Take and Makes Ideas.
All our take and makes are limited to 25 signups for ages 11-18.
Baby Yoda- sewing take and make. A pattern was given and an instructional video on how to sew different stiches. This was all made from felt.
Teen Book Boxes- Teens filled out a form with their age and genre of book they preferred along with an open-ended question of if there was anything else they wanted us to know. Books were then selected for each teen. The boxes were very expensive but could easily be done with paper bags instead. Each box has a bookmark, gummy bears (pre-packaged), a button, a fun pen, a notebook, temporary tattoo, and a sticker. We did personalized notes for each person as well. The books are ARCs but also some left over from summer reading prizes. You could also take donated books too.
Among Us- we are doing Shrinky Dink keychains and a mini plushie made from felt.
D&D kit included character sheets, an adventure, a how to do combat sheet, and an intro to D&D packet. I also included a set of the 7 dice you need and a bag for the dice. I made my own how to make a 1st level character video on YouTube but also linked to a lot of other great videos and resources (like D&D Beyond). -Amanda Heidema, Herrick District Library, aheidema@herrickdl.org

INTERACTIVE MOVIES
Do you need a fun and relatively easy movie program? Try an interactive movie experience for your teens and tweens. Using the script, your teens will have fun making the movie come to life.
Here is how it works:
Go out and buy everything listed for your kit, unless you already have it and get a copy of the movie. The day of the event, print copies of the script and set out the supplies with little notes (take 1 or take 2). Sometimes I also pop popcorn so they have a little extra to nibble on. Because of lighting, I use two lamps that I sit on the floor near my teens so they can read the script but it is dark enough in the room to watch the movie. As teens arrive, have them build their kit. Once everyone is there, I briefly go over the script and what they will be doing, most importantly highlighting the “Whenever this happens do this” section because it is easy to forget those and they do not go in order of the movie. Then you start the movie and enjoy the fun. I follow along with the script very closely because sometimes the teens get so sucked in to watching they forget to participate, so I do the actions and then they remember. When the movie is over, they help clean up.
Do you have any questions? Have you wrITTEN an interactive script?
Send it our way so we can share it with everyone. Email teenthinktankoh@gmail.com
